Stephen Drew Morgan, Sr.
November 17, 1951 - May 12, 2009
Stephen Drew Morgan, Sr., 57, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at his home with his family by his side. Steve was a lifelong resident of Savannah. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the 165th Airlift Group, Georgia Air National Guard and retired from the Chatham County Sheriff's Department as a Sergeant after sixteen years of service. He was an avid music lover and musician, playing the guitar, and having his own band in his younger years. Steve was an enthusiastic hunter and wildlife conservationist for most of his life. He felt at peace with nature, and believed that hunters had a special obligation to protect our environment and aid in conservation. Steve believed strongly in the management and preservation of earth's forests, plant life, the dependent wildlife and he encouraged the appreciation these resources. He was involved in many different organizations including the Georgia Wildlife Federation where he was a certified instructor, the National Wild Turkey Association, Quail Unlimited, and the Georgia Quality White Tail Association. Steve was also a State certified Habitat Manager and a member of the Quality Deer Management Association.
Steve is survived by his loving family; his wife, Susan Barry Morgan, his son, Stephen Drew Morgan, Jr., and his daughter, Jean Marie Morgan, all of Savannah. He is also survived by two brothers; Dewey Morgan, Jr. Helen, of Sylvania, and Carroll J. Morgan, of Savannah, and two sisters; Denise Tucker, of Guyton and Janet Roberts Jimmy, of Richmond Hill. Steve is also survived by his father-in-law, Frank I. Barry, brother-in-law, George Barry, and sister-in-law, Jean Hester John, all of Savannah. Numerous nephews and nieces; Dewey Morgan, III KristinJonathan, Anna, Stuart, Kris Morgan Katy, Brian Sheppard, Joshua and Samuel Tucker, James and John Roberts, Jason Barry, Emily Blackmon Boone, Zaida and Molly Hester, and many other close family and friends. Pallbearers will be Dewey Morgan, III, Kris Morgan, Joshua Tucker, Jimmy Roberts, Jimmy Mulvaney and Edgar Smith. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church with Father Joseph Smith, celebrant.
Burial will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
As a teenager I remember Steve, Carrol, and Dewey, and thought a lot of all three. I was sorry to here of Steve's passing. I hope God provides serenity to the family over his loss.
